Olfatea is a tea house created by Chaïna Fidahoussen, perfumer and founder of Maison de parfums Moramora, Toronto's first artisan perfumery house. The idea was born from her quest for fine teas extra-scented with plants only, without any nasty flavouring or preservatives that she couldn't find anywhere. She also wanted to reinvent the tea experience that she found boring and mundane with the same old blends and flavours for decades, with her very own refreshing and original melanges and new types of delights to create something magical.
Hello, I am Chaïna.
I have a passion for all things smell and taste. Scents and flavours are rooted in my DNA as I grew up in a family of food makers and fragrance lovers in Madagascar, the Island of spices and essential oils. At home, we always have three types of cuisine, North Indian Gujarati, French, and Malagasy, reflecting our triple identity, and this heritage has deeply influenced me.
I lived in Reunion Island, former Bourbon island, a tiny French oversea territory in the Indian Ocean known for its biodiversity, essential oils, spices and gastronomy, before pursuing my studies in Paris where I educated my palate and my nose further. Later on, I moved to Montreal then Toronto where I explored new cultures, tastes, and northern botanicals.
Two years ago, I decided to recreate a family staple, a chai made with Indian, Malagasy and Persian spices. I added perfume plants and essences to take a step from tradition, built it and aged like a fragrance. The decadent results pleased me so much that I shared it around, creating a sort of cult-following. Today, I am taking another step with multi-sensory small collection and bespoke service to enchant and make you dig deep down your own madeleine de Proust. I hope you will enjoy my concept and will try my creations.
